Egypt name 36 players for CHAN 2018 qualifiers

Egypt local national team coach, Hany Ramzy has identified 36 players to take part in a training camp for CHAN 2018 qualifiers.

Egypt will be taking part in the qualification for CHAN for the first time. CHAN, also known as the African Nations Championship, is a tournament for local based players only. It is held every two years like the Africa Cup of Nations.

Hany Ramzy promised to consider second division players and did call up players from FC Masr and Baladeyet El Mahalla. There are no players from Al Ahly or Zamalek.

The squad will take part in a training camp in Cairo that will run from Sunday, 22nd January. Below is a full list of the call-ups:

Walid Hassan, Mahmoud Ahmed Rizk, Loay Wael (El Entag El Harby). Mohamed Fathy, Ibrahim Hassan, Mahmoud Metwally, Mohamed Sayed (Ismaily). Maher Nasser (Petrojet). Ali Lotfy, Tarek Amr, Mahmoud Fathi, Abdallah Gomaa (ENPPI). Hassan Tariq (Al Ittihad). Mohamed Hamdi, Farid Shawki, Ahmed Moussa, Mohamed Majid, Ahmed Gomaa (Al Masry). Mohamed Sherif, Mahmoud Alaa, Mohammed Helal (Wadi Degla). Mahdi Soliman, Hossam Hassan, Omar Saad (Smouha). Islam Moussa (Aswan). Hesham Mohamed, Ahmed Moudy, Mahmoud Hamdi (Misr El-Maqassa). Osama (FC Masr). Mohamed Hassan, Mohamed Al-Maleh (Baladeyet El Mahalla). Mohamed Shawky Gharib, Ahmed Shimi (Arab Contractors). Mahmoud Salah (Al Assiouty Sport). Islam Tariq (Tanta). Abdul Naeem (Dakhkeya).

Egypt will contest for one of two qualification slots in CAF’s Northern zone. The other countries in this zone are Algeria, Morocco, Libya and Tunisia.

The CHAN 2018 tournament will be held in Kenya. DR Congo are the defending champions.
