Sam Morsy scores as Wigan edge Brentford
Morsy, who signed a new contract with club last week, opened the scoring for the Latics just before the half-hour mark with a 20 yard strike that went into the top corner.
Wigan doubled their lead four minutes later, thanks to an own goal by Harlee Dean. Will Grigg’s shot was saved by Daniel Bentley and the rebound fell to Morsy, whose shot was deflected in by Dean.
With only four minutes remaining to full time, substitute Jota scored a late consolation goal from close range as the game ended with a 2-1 victory for Wigan.
The three points took Wigan out of the relegation zone as they moved up to the 21st place in the Championship standings, level on 25 points with Burton Albion who sit in the 22nd position.
They will face sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday on Feb. 3.
