Emam talks about his Udinese days and Salah
Hazem Emam has admitted that his early days at Italy’s Serie A with Udinese were difficult, adding that he is lucky to play alongside Bierhoff, Amoroso and Poggi.
Emam have spoken with TMW radio, admitting that it was very hard for him to adapt in his first few months with Udinese and has revealed that he enjoyed his spell at the Serie A.
“I came to Udinese in the Serie A best times. There were players like Baggio, Ronaldo, Batistuta and Zidane, but for me as the first Egyptian player to play in the Serie A it wasn’t easy,” Emam said.
“I was just 19-years-old, the first few months were very difficult for me. I could only talk with players who spoke English as Bierhoff and Helveg and it wasn’t easy at such age to leave your home to a completely different culture.
“However, things began to improve after 3-4 months as I began to adapt. I am very lucky to have played alongside players like Bierhoff, Amoroso and the club’s captain Poggi.
“We were managed by Alberto Zaccheroni, one of the best managers in Italy. He guided us to the third place in 1998 after beating AC Milan,” he added.
Zamalek Legend said that he spoke with AS Roma’s winger Mohamed Salah, who sought his advice before moving to Serie A, where he joined Fiorentina in 2015.
“I spoke with Salah, he was at Chelsea and asked for my advice after receiving offers from Inter and Fiorentina. I told him that he would be able to play anywhere in Italy. He chose Fiorentina and he played very well.
Emam was finally asked about his thoughts on Egypt’s National Team, who are playing a crucial game against Ghana in the final match-day of 2017 Africa Cup of Nations group-stages.
“Tomorrow is a very important game against Ghana who have very good players, but we have managed to beat them 2-0 two months ago. We will see how it ends,” Emam concluded.
