The Pharaohs failed to win the bronze medal after losing to Syria on penalties in the third place play-off of the 2017 World Military Cup on Saturday.

Egypt lost to hosts Oman in the semi-finals on penalties after drawing 2-2 to play in the third place play-offs, while Syria also lost to Qatar on penalties after drawing with the same result.

ENPPI defender Salah Soliman scored Egypt’s first goal of the game inside the opening seven minutes after an excellent assist from Petrojet’s Mohamed Ramadan.

In the 36 minute, Mohamed Hamadko scored the equaliser for Syria, before Al Ahly loanee and El-Maqassa winger Ahmed El-Sheikh scored his fifth goal of the tournament to give Egypt the lead.

The bronze medal was going to Egypt, but Mohammed Al Wakid had other ideas as he scored a 91st minute free-kick, taking the game to extra time.

Both team failed to score in the extra time and went on to penalty shootouts, where Syria beat the Pharaohs 6-5, with Ittihad of Alexandria’s Nour El-Sayed and Al Ahly’s Amr Gamal missing their penalties.
