Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: El-Gabbas remains on bench as Lierse win
KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action this week, to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.
Ahmed Hamoudi – Al Batin (Saudi Arabia)
Egypt’s Ahmed Hamoudi, who’s on the verge of joining Al Ahly, was excluded from Al-Batin’s squad as they defeated Al-Khaleej 1-0 in the 16th round of the Saudi Professional League. Al-Batin clinched the three points late in the game as Sahow Al-Mutairi managed to find the back of Al-Khaleej’s net in the 78th minute. Following the win, Al-Batin moved to the 10th place with 16 points and are set to face Al-Ettifaq on Feb. 2.
Dodo El-Gabbas – Lierse (Belgium)
After the departure of Amr Barakat and Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Dodo El-Gabbas became the only Egyptian at Lierse. He was an unused substitute at his side’s 3-2 victory over Oud-Heverlee Leuven, as they moved up to share the top spot with Antwerp on 19 points.
All the goals for Lierse came in the first half, courtesy of Ludovic Buysens, Dylan De Belder and Kenyan international Ayub Masika. OH Leuven pulled two goals back in the second half to reduce the deficit through Yannick Loemba and Esteban Casagolda but failed to complete the comeback as the game ended 3-2 in favour of Lierse.
Sam Morsy – Wigan Athletic (England)
Egypt international Sam Morsy featured in his side’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon. Marouane Fellaini opened the scoring in the dying moments of the first half, and Chris Smalling, Henrik Mkhitaryan and Bastian Schweinsteiger got their names on the scoresheet to round out a frustrating afternoon for the Latics.
