Egypt manager Héctor Cúper comments on win against Morocco
Egypt national team coach Hector Cuper spoke about his team’s tactics against Morocco, Elneny and Marwan Mohsen’s injury, and Karim Hafez’s performance.
The Pharaohs will be playing against Burkina Faso in the semi-final match of the 2017 African Cup of Nations after defeating Morocco in the quarter-final match 1-0 on Sunday.
“Elneny won’t be playing in the next match against Burkina Faso,” Cuper confirmed the injury of Arsenal’s midfielder. “He is suffering from a strain in the calf muscle.”
“It is not true what has been said that he is running away from the national team. We sent the medical results to Arsenal already,” he added.
As for Marwan Mohsen, Cuper confirmed that the striker will undergo x-ray scans to know the extent of his injury. “I hope it will be a simple one,” said the Argentinian coach in concern.
Regarding Morocco’s encounter, he believes that Egypt played against all expectations. “Everyone thought that this will be a defensive match, but what happened is that we played an attacking game.”
The 61-year-old manager went on and said that he managed to stop Morocco’s key tactics especially when it came to free-kicks. “I want to congratulate Morocco’s coach, he formed an amazing team and deserves to be in the next round of the tournament but football is unfair.”
The former Inter Milan coach also spoke about his decision to start with Karim Hafez saying that he is responsible for it as he is the main decision maker. “He is a promising player and performed well, but Morocco were sending crosses from his side and that was dangerous for our defence line,” he concluded.
