Retired national team and Al Ahly defender Wael Gomaa commented on Egypt and Morocco match on Sunday as the Pharaohs qualified to semi-finals after winning the match 1-0.

As the game was heading towards extra time, Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ snatched a late goal from a corner kick to knock out the Atlas Lions from the 2017 African Cup of Nations after an intense match from both sides.

“I liked how Hector Cuper managed to correct his previous mistakes regarding choosing the right players and decide their roles,” said the three-time AFCON winner. “All this assures that he fits Egypt and that Egypt fits him too.”

As for Elneny, Gomaa confirmed that his absence was crucial to the team. “We could all feel it. Cuper also managed well this using Abdallah El-Said and since then Egypt was able to force its domination in the second half,” he explained. “El-Said knows how to start a structured attack on opponents and this was what we were missing today.”

“The next round will be extremely hard. I expect a very tough match against Burkina Faso,” Gomaa concluded as he hopes that Cuper continues his success with the national team and win the tournament.
