Al Ahly forward Marwan Mohsen tore his anterior cruciate ligament in Egypt’s 1-0 win against Morocco, the Egyptian Football Association has confirmed.

The 27-year-old featured for 43 minutes against Morocco in the AFCON quarter-finals before tearing his ACL and then was replaced by Sporting Braga’s forward Ahmed Hassan Koka.

Mohsen started all of Egypt’s games at the AFCON after impressing Héctor Cúper in Egypt’s 1-0 win against Tunisia in the pre-tournament preparations, where he scored the game’s only goal.

The former Gil Vicente and Ismaily player will miss at least the next six months and it’s expected that either Braga’s Koka or Ittihad Jeddah’s Mahmoud Kahraba, who scored the winner against Morocco, will replace him.

The Pharaohs are set to face Burkina Faso in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals on Wednesday, January 1 in Libreville at Stade de l’Amitié.

Marwan Mohsen has made nine appearances for Al Ahly this season, scoring only once against Al Masry in the Egyptian Premier League.
