EXCLUSIVE | Sam Morsy comments on Egypt’s AFCON 2017 exploits
Egypt international Sam Morsy has told KingFut.com that he would have loved to be with the Egyptian squad in Gabon but believes they are coping just fine.
KingFut.com’s Ahmad Yousef spoke to Sam Morsy who has been watching from Wigan after a delay in finalising military papers meant the midfielder couldn’t travel with the Egypt to Gabon.
When asked about Egypt’s performance at the 2017 African Cup of Nations, with the 25-year-old said, “[There have been] some great team performances you can see the team spirit is really high, when you have that you feel you are unbeatable. The game against Morocco was brilliant a really determined win.”
Morsy also felt optimistic about Egypt’s chances of beating Burkina Faso but insisted it was down to who was more hungry saying, “We have a great chance, but football is about on the day. Which team turns up. Egypt have a special formula with some outstanding individual performers.”
With Elneny out and a lack of midfield options for Egypt Morsy would have been a very useful player for Egypt. Morsy wanted to be there but believes the Pharaohs are coping fine saying, “Yeah I would love to have been there and helping the country but they are coping with it fine.”
Lastly, Sam was asked whether the Egyptian National team had contacted him about his future with Egypt. He said, “I haven’t heard anything from the national team on if I will be involved in the future. But I am supporting them regardless of what happens. The only concern for them now is the next game.”
