Ahmed Fathi reveals he played against Burkina Faso with an injury
Al-Ahly full-back and Egypt international Ahmed Fathi has confirmed that he continued playing against Burkina Faso with an injury in extra time.
Speaking to CNN Arabia, the versatile defender spoke about his heroics against the Stallions as he continued the game after picking up an injury when he collided with Ali Gabr in the extra time.
“I completed the match against Burkina Faso with a severe bruise in my chest after I had an accidental collision with Ali Gabr,” the 32-year-old said.
“I had no other choice but to continue playing and this comes down to the lack of players on the bench after the amount of injury blows we’ve been hit with,” he added.
Fathi however, confirmed that team doctor Mohamed Aboul Ela did a quick scan on his chest and reassured him that the injury is not serious and he will be able to play the final against Cameroon on Sunday.
It is worth mentioning that Fathi has been vital to the team since the start of the tournament starting in all of the five matches, played in three different positions so far, right-back, left-back and a central midfielder.
