Egypt and Al Ahly star Abdallah El-Said spoke about his penalty miss in Egypt’s 4-3 shootout win over Burkina Faso.

The Pharaohs are close to claiming their 8th African Cup of Nations title title having cruised past Burkina Faso with a 4-3 penalty shootout win that featured a heroic performance from Essam El-Hadary.

Penalty specialist Abdallah El-Said stepped forward to take the first penalty, but it was saved by 20-year-old goalkeeper Koffi.

The 31-year-old midfielder expressed his happiness with reaching the 2017 AFCON final, while explaining why he missed the penalty.

“The ball was a bit flat and I was exhausted as we had played extra time; the fatigue was obvious on the players. I proceeded and thought the keeper would stand still yet it was a weak shot” explained El-Said.

“Thank God I was not affected by the missed penalty, this is possible in football. I am fully focused on hitting the back of the net when I shoot the ball from the spot. Thank God we won and this penalty did not lead to our elimination,” he concluded.

Egypt take on Cameroon on Sunday in a repeat of the 2008 final, after the Indomitable Lions defeated Ghana 2-0 on Thursday in the other semi-final.

A medical student who loves football. Any free time I have is usually dedicated to football. I support Al Ahly and Real Madrid (Al Ahly comes first of course). Contrary to popular belief, I believe that females enjoy football as much as males do; I am a living proof :D Proud that I am writing for King Fut.
