Egypt national team Hector Cuper expressed his sorrow for failing to win the 2017 African Cup of Nations title after losing the final match to Cameroon.

Even though the Pharaohs dominated the first half, the Indomitable Lions were unstoppable after the break and managed to equalise the score as substitute Nkoulou headed the ball past El-Hadary and then Vincent Aboubakar sealed the game in the last minutes to stop Cuper’s hopes to put an end to his bad luck in finals.

“I’m not sad because we lost, I’m sad because Egyptians had dreams and desire to win the Nations Cup,” The Argentinian coach said after the match. “I’m sorry for the players. I think we did a good job but I’m sorry we could not give Egyptians the happiness they craved.”

As for Egypt’s performance during the final game, the 61-year-old coach thinks that the team was not in a good form on the contrary to what they presented during the rest of the tournament. “Injuries had a big role in forcing the national team to play that way,” he added.

“I will not say that I’m used to losing finals and that I’m used to this feeling. Right now I feel great sadness,” he concluded.
