Al Ahly midfielder Abdallah El-Said believes that Burkina Faso were Egypt’s toughest opponents in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Pharaohs finished second in the AFCON 2017 after losing 2-1 to Cameroon in the final. In their journey to the final, Egypt managed to eliminate Morocco and Burkina Faso in the knockout stage. They also defeated Ghana and Uganda, and drew with Mali in the group stage.

“Burkina Faso were the strongest and fastest team we faced in the competition,” El-Said said during an interview with CBC satellite channel.

The 31-year-old expressed his sadness about losing against Cameroon, saying he was hoping to achieve the title and “make Egyptians happy”.

“But this is football, you may win and you may lose,” he added.

The Egypt international, who scored the winner against Uganda, also added that injuries and poor condition of the pitch at Port-Gentil negatively affected the team’s performance.
