Cúper: I managed to win what is greater than the title
Egypt manager Héctor Cúper says the players gave him something greater than winning the AFCON final.
Following the Pharaohs 2-1 loss to Cameroon in the final in the 2017 African Cup of Nations, Cúper has drawn some positivity out of the ordeal.
The 61-year-old manager talked to ON Sport Channel in an interview about what’s next for Egypt and how the players give him hope that the best is yet to come.
“Losing the AFCON final should motivate us to move forward and continue working hard. We are on the right track and our next goal is the World Cup.
The Argentine manager mentioned that the players sat down and held a meeting with him after the AFCON final defeat in which they expressed their grief and their wish they could have won to end his poor finals record.
“The players’ words have added to my sorrow, but managed to make me proud as well as they gave it their all on the pitch and did their best to win the tournament.
“I am really happy with my players and what they did for me as well as their country. Truthfully, I have won what is better than the African title,’’ he concluded
