Confederations Cup: Al Masry stunned late goal in defeat against Ifeanyi Ubah
On their return to the African Confederations Cup, Al Masry loses to Nigerian side Ifeanyi Ubah, after conceding a late goal in the first leg of the preliminary round.
The Green Eagles’ has previously reached the semi-finals of the 1999 CAF Winners’ Cup and the 2002 CAF Cup.
Ifeanyi Ubah were in control with higher possession in the first half trying to find the net, while Al Masry maintained a defensive style, playing on the counter attack. The Port said-based side were very close to open the score sheet at the end of the first half through Ahmed Kaboria, but his shot was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
In the second half, the Green Eagles almost grabbed their first through Egypt’s international Ahmed Gomaa whose shot deflected from the left post in the 68th minute. The game was moving to a goalless draw until Medrano Tamen found the net with the winning goal in the 87th minute after a wonderful pass.
Al Masry, who are led by former Egypt striker Hossam Hassan, will host Ifeanyi Ubah in the second leg next week on February 19th in Cairo.
