Spanish coach Juan José Maqueda has been reappointed as the Ittihad of Alexandria manager after the departure of Mokhtar Mokhtar.

Mokhtar has parted ways with Ittihad on Monday ahead of his side’s clash with Arab Contractors in the 18th round of the Egyptian Premier League, which ended in a 1-0 victory for Ittihad.

Mokhtar, who led the team against Contractors, said that the club’s circumstances are not helping him to succeed.

The Alexandria-based club announced Maqueda as Mokhtar’s successor. The Spanish coach will be leading the team in their Saturday’s match against Wadi Degla.

Maqueda previously took charge of Ittihad in 2011 before leaving the club with mutual consent following the Port Said disaster, which led to the suspension of the league. He also had a stint with Al Masry in the 2014/15 season.

The Alexandrian club sit ninth in the league standings on 23 points after 18 games.
