Al Ahly to face South Africa’s Bidvest Wits in CAF Champions League

Bidvest Wits
Record eight-time champions Al Ahly will face South African outfit Bidvest Wits in the round of 32 of the 2017 CAF Champions League.

After losing to Saint-Louisienne 2-1 in the first leg of the preliminary round, Bidvest Wits earned a 3-1 win in the second leg to progress to the next stage 4-3 on aggregate.

The South African team, known as The Clever Boys, pulled off a comeback at home against the Reunion’s St. Louisienne on Saturday; earning themselves a place in the round of 32, where they will face Cairo giants Al Ahly.

Daine Klate broke the deadlock in the 27th minute through a free-kick, before Sifiso Myeni doubled their lead right after the break. The visitors pulled one back through Philean with 13 minutes to go, before Malajila scored four minutes from time to secure the Wits’ qualification.

Al Ahly will host the South African side on weekend of March 10-12 before travelling for the second leg, which is set to be held between 17 and 19 March.

Bidvest Wits qualified to this year’s competition after finishing second in the 2015/16 domestic season, behind CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

A medical student who loves football. Any free time I have is usually dedicated to football. I support Al Ahly and Real Madrid (Al Ahly comes first of course). Contrary to popular belief, I believe that females enjoy football as much as males do; I am a living proof :D Proud that I am writing for King Fut.
