Former Al Ahly and Villarreal manager Juan Carlos Garrido has been sacked as Saudi Arabian side Ettifaq manager, following a series of disappointing results.

The Spanish manager was appointed last November after being sacked by Egyptian giants Al Ahly after an early Champions League exit and series of poor performances in the Egyptian Premier League.

Garrido’s last game was against Al-Wahda, who have two Egyptian players in their ranks, former Al Ahly defender Sherif Hazem, and Ahmed Magdi, with the latter winning a penalty in that game, which ended in 2-1 win to Al-Wahda.

The former Villarreal manager was in charge for 12 matches in all competitions, with an overall record of three wins, three draw and six losses, leaving Al-Ettifaq in 8th place with 22 points after 19 matches.

Garrido has won two trophies with the Red Devils in 2014, lifting the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Séwé Sport in the final, and winning the Egyptian Super cup after beating arch-rivals Zamalek on penalties.
