Egyptian International Mohamed Abdelshafy returned to Al Ahli’s lineup as they beat Bunyodkor 2-0 in Matchday 1 of the AFC Champions League.

Al Ahli were drawn into Group C along last year’s finalists Al Ain (UAE), FC Bunyodkor (Uzbekistan), and Zob Ahan (Iran).

It took only 13 minutes for prolific goalscorer Omar Al-Soma to score the Jeddah’s side first goal. A mere eight minutes after half-time, Salman Al-Muwashar doubled Ahli’s lead.

Throughout the match, Al Ahli was the more dangerous of the two sides.

In the other match of group play, Al Ain drew 1-1 at home with Zob Ahan earlier in the day. Thus, the result leaves Al Ahli top of the group with 3 points. Their next game will be at Zob Ahan on February 28.

In addition to being a football/soccer and basketball enthusiast, I am currently pursuing a combined BS/MD degree at VCU. I also currently work as a Pharmacy Technician in my spare time.
