Squash: 20 Egyptians to participate in Windy City Open main draw

The Windy City Open 2017, which will kick off on Thursday in Chicago, will see the participation of 20 Egyptian players in the main draw.

The PSA World Series event will be held between Feb. 23 and March 1 in Chicago, USA. Three out of the top eight seeds in the women’s draw are Egyptians, while there are seven Egyptians among the top eight seeds in the men’s draw.

Ten Egyptian players will participate in the men’s main draw with an all-Egyptian match in the first round between World No.6 Marwan ElShorbagy and Karim Ali Fathi. World No.1 & defending champion Mohamed ElShorbagy will face Paul Coll of New Zealand, while Egypt’s World No.7 Ali Farag will play against former World No.4 Miguel Angel Rodriguez.

World No.5 Ramy Ashour will take on Finnish Olli Tuominen and Egypt’s Mohamed Abouelghar will face French Mathieu Castagnet.

Egypt’s World No. 11 Omar Mosaad will have a key match with World No.9 James Willstrop, while World No.2 Karim Abdel Gawad will face Alan Clyne. World No.8 Tarek Momen and World No. 12 Fares Dessouky will face Hong Kong’s Leo Au and Swiss Nicolas Müller, respectively.

In the women’s main draw, which also sees the participation of 10 Egyptians, World No.1 Nour El Sherbini will play her compatriot Nadine Shahin, while World No. 3 and defending champion Raneem El-Welily will play against English Jenny Duncalf.

Egypt’s World No.4 Nouran Gohar will face English Fiona Moverley, while Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy will have a strong match with former World No.1 and current World No.7 Nicol David. World No.13 Nour El-Tayeb will face Tesni Evans and her fellow Egyptian Mariam Metwally will play against English legend Laura Massaro.

World No.27 Heba El Torky will face World No.2 Camille Serme, who won three titles out of last four finals. Egypt’s Salma Hany Ibrahim and Mayar Hany will face Hong Kong’s Joey Chan and Annie Au, respectively.

Last year’s edition saw Mohamed ElShorbagy defeat Nick Mathew in the final and Raneem El Welily claimed the title after defeating fellow Egyptian Nour El Sherbiny.

The Windy City Open is the fifth World Series event out of seven for the 2016/17 PSA Road to Dubai finals and the fourth stage out of five World Series events for the women’s road to Dubai.

The PSA Dubai World Series sees the world’s top eight male and female ranked players compete for the last title of the season.
