EXCLUSIVE: Sam Morsy called up to Egypt squad
Wigan’s Sam Morsy has been called up to the Egypt squad that will play a friendly game this March, KingFut can confirm.
The Egyptian national team will play a friendly game this month to prepare for Tunisia’s encounter in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers, and for Uganda’s two crucial games in the World cup qualifiers over the coming few months.
The English-born midfielder has confirmed to KingFut that he has been called up by Héctor Cúper after being left out of the Pharaohs squad for the 2017 AFCON due to a military issue.
The Egyptian FA tried to convince Cúper not to play a friendly this month because of the hectic Egyptian Premier League schedule, but the Argentine manager insisted on playing it.
Morsy’s only international appearance for Egypt was against Guinea in a friendly back in August, which ended in a 1-1 draw, but he will try to grab the chance and impress Cúper to be a key part of his plans for the future.
Sam has made 25 appearances for Wigan and Barnsley this season across all competitions, scoring once against Brentford in the league and assisting three times.
