Maqassa defeat Zamalek under controversial circumstances
Misr El-Maqassa managed to open the scoring just 19 minutes into the game, as Hussein El-Shahat managed to slot the ball into the back of Zamalek’s net.
Following the goal, Zamalek tried to score the equalizing goal, as they maintained position and pressured El-Maqassa into their own half.
In the 66th minute, Zamalek players and staff were infuriated by referee Gehad Grisha’s inability to award a penalty after Maqassa defender Ahmed Samy clearly punched away the ball inside the area.
Misr El-Maqassa managed to hold on to their lead until the 90th minute, when the Zamalek players walked off the pitch with six minutes of injury time to play. The players eventually returned to play out the final minutes, as they failed to win for the first time in five matches.
Following the win, El-Maqassa currently occupy second spot with 45 points, seven points behind league leaders Al Ahly, while the Whites, remain in third with 40 points.
