Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Trezeguet features in victory over Standard Liege

KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action this week to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.

Sam Morsy – Wigan Athletic (England)

March 4 – The Championship – Wigan lost a crucial game at the bottom of the Championship as Marvin Emnes scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Blackburn. The Dutch forward scored from a quick counter attack after he cut inside and tucked the ball in at the near post. Wigan dominated possession but couldn’t find the incision to equalise, as Sam Morsy only had a yellow card to take away from the game. Wigan are now in 23rd place on 31 points. They’ll face Birmingham City on Tuesday.

Mohamed Abdel-Shafy – Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia)

March 4 – Saudi Professional League – Mohamed Abdel-Shafy played the entire game as Ahli drew 2-2 with Al Khaleej. Al Khaleej took the lead in the 4th minute. Omar El Somah scored from the spot in the 39th minute to level the score. Abdulfattah Asiri scored Ahli’s second goal right before halftime. However, Al Khaleej were able to level the score at 2-2 in the 81st minute. The result leaves Ahli in third place with 41 points from 20 games. Their next game will be against Al Wehda on Thursday.

Trezeguet – Royal Excel Mouscron (Belgium)

March 4 – Belgium Pro League – Trezeguet came on for Dimitri Mohamed for the final 20 minutes to help his team hold onto their slim 1-0 lead against Standard Liege. Simon Diedhiou had given Royal Mouscron the lead in the 38th minute. The home team managed to hold off their opponents to end a run of four consecutive league defeats. With the win, Trezeguet’s side closed in on Westerlo, who are in 15th place. Mouscron have 21 points from 29 matches.

Sam Morsy – Wigan Athletic (England)

March 8 – The Championship – Sam Morsy was excluded from the squad due to suspension, as Wigan defeated Birmingham City 1-0 in the 36th fixture of the Championship. Wigan’s Daniel Burn scored the game’s only goal after 19 minutes. Following the win, Wigan occupy the 23rd league spot with 34 points and are set to face relegation rivals Bristol City on March. 11.
