Zambia claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Africa on Wednesday to secure a spot in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The hosts reached the semi-final after finishing as Group A leaders with nine points. They defeated Egypt in their last group game, ending the Pharaohs’ hopes of reaching the 2017 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, South Africa finished second in Group B, with six points after beating Cameroon and Sudan, and losing to Senegal.

Both teams failed to find the net in the 90 minutes of their semi-final at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka before Edward Chilufya scored the winner in the 108th minute.

Zambia, who reached the final for the first time, will face the winner of the second semi-final that will take place on Thursday between Senegal and Guinea.

The four semi-finalists have secured their spots in 2017 U-20 FIFA World Cup that will take place in South Korea between May 20 and June 11.
