Three first-half goals helped Al Ahli secure a 3-1 victory over Al-Wehda in gameweek 21 of the Saudi Professional League on Thursday.

Egypt’s Ahmed Magdy and Sherif Hazem started for Al-Wehda, who are managed by Egyptian coach Adel Abdel-Rahman. Meanwhile, Egypt international and Al Ahli left-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafy remained on the bench.

Omar Al Somah opened the scoring for Al Ahli after nine minutes before doubling his side’s lead in the 28th minute.

Five minutes later, Ahmed Magdy’s cross inside the box found Mukhtar Fallatah, who slotted home to reduce the deficit.

However, Al Ahli extended their lead again as Taisir Al Jassim scored for the guests to make it 3-1 seven minutes before the break.

Midway through the second half, Egyptian winger Ahmed Magdy, who is on loan from Entag El-Harby, made way for striker Mohanad Al Farsi. His compatriot Sherif Hazem, who is on loan from Ismaily, played the full 90 minutes.

To add insult to injury, Al-Wehda lost defender Hatim Belal to a late red card, as he was sent off 10 minutes from time for a second booking.

Al Ahli are now second on 44 points, 9 points behind leaders Hilal. Al-Wehda remain in the relegation zone with 17 points.
