World Squash Federation refute Smouha’s ‘Club of the Century’ claim

The World Squash Federation (WSF) have refuted claims they awarded Egyptian side Smouha a Club of the Century prize.

Earlier on Thursday, the Alexandria-based club claimed on their official social media accounts they were awarded the Club of the Century title from the WSF. They added there are preparations to make a film about the club to be aired on BBC World.

However, WSF Chief Executive Andrew Shelley denied the existence of such award, saying the federation don’t have club recognition competitions.

“Club of the Century – very impressive, but not a WSF award! We do not have club recognition competitions so my guess is that it may have come from another organisation or for another sport played there,” Shelley told KingFut in an email.

Egypt is currently dominating the squash international scene. PSA World Rankings for March placed six Egyptian players among the top 10 male players, and four Egyptians are ranked inside the top 10 women players.
