Egypt international Mohamed Abdel-Shafy played a full 90 minutes in his team’s 2-2 draw with Al Ain at home, keeping Al Ahli Jeddah FC at the top of Group C of the AFC Champions League.

An early dangerous header from the visitors that was saved by Al Ahli’s goalkeeper was enough to wake Abdelshafy and his teammates up.

In the 10th minute, Al Ahli defender Aqeel Al-Sahabi’s strong header tested Al Ain’s goalkeeper, but it wasn’t enough to change the scoreline. A free kick and a header from Omar Al-Somah in the 19th and 24th minutes, respectively, hit the crossbar, and the home side continued to come close to breaking the deadlock.

In the 26th minute, Al-Sahabi flicked the ball over Al-Ain’s goalkeeper from the corner to put the home side in front. However, just one minute later, Al-Ain equalized through Nassir Al Shamrani who beat the keeper from inside the box.

The home side started the second half attacking and were able to snatch the second goal in the 50th minute through Ioannis Fetfatzidis, who took advantage of a mistake clearance by Al-Ain’s goalkeeper. The visitor came with a quick equalizer once again as Al-Sahabi put the ball in his own net in the 53rd minute off a corner.

The visitors gained confidence and got into the game, with both sides coming close to scoring the winning goal. In the 71st minute, Al-Somah hit the post once again from a free-kick. Neither team was successful in finding the net, and the game ended in a draw.

Al Ahli currently sits on top of Group C with seven points, followed by Al Ain with five points. Zob Ahan FC is in third place with four points, and Bunyodkor is last with zero points, all from three games played.
