Mido reveals he was set to join Juventus before Roma move
Ex-Roma striker and current Wadi Degla coach Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’ recalled an incident back when he was playing in Europe in 2004 that had a big impact on his football and changed his destination in Italy from Juventus to Roma.
During his time in Europe in 2004, ‘Mido’ was leaving Marseille heading to the Seria A to join Juventus. However, going back to this date, his destination suddenly changed.
“In the summer of 2004, me and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were going to the Serie A. We both had the same agent, Mino Raiola,” he told DMC TV channel. “I had an agreement to move to Juventus and Ibra was going to join AS Roma.”
In the Airport when he arrived in Turin to undergo medical tests with the Bianconeri, everything changed for the Egyptian Pharaoh. “When I arrived at the airport Raiola called me and told me that I have to cancel my trip as Juventus made a new agreement with Ibra and I should be going to Roma instead,” he explained.
‘Mido’ joined AS Roma in the summer of 2004 coming from Marseille, however, he did not participate a lot with the team and later moved to the English Premier League joining Tottenham Hotspurs. “Fabio Capello was supporting Ibra in his first season and kept supporting him till he performed well in Serie A, unlike what happened with me in Roma.”
