Mouscron and Lierse learn their opponents in Europa League playoffs

Belgian clubs Royal Excel Mouscron and Lierse SK have learnt their opponents in Europa League playoffs as they aim to secure a spot in the European campaign next season.

According to the Belgian League system, teams ranked 7th to 15th enter a playoff alongside three teams from the second division, to secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Europa League.

Trezeguet scored an early goal to help Royal Excel Mouscron stay in the Belgian Pro League after finishing in 15th place with 24 points, one point above bottom of the table, Westerlo, who relegated to Belgian First Division B.

On the other hand, The Egypt-owned Belgian side missed a golden opportunity to play in Belgium’s top-tire next season, however, El-Gabbas’ teammates have a chance to play in the European competitions next season.

Lierse are going to play in Group A alongside KV Mechelen, Standard Liege, Sint-Truidense, Waasland-Beveren and Union Saint-Gilloise.

While Royal Excel Mouscron were drawn in Group B, playing against Genk, KSV Roeselare, KAS Eupen, Sporting Lokeren and KV Kortrijk.

The winners of both groups will face each other to determine the playoff winner, with the winner facing the fourth or the fifth-placed team of the Champions League playoff for the Europa League ticket.
