Bidvest Wits defender Siboniso Gaxa has rued the absence of Thulani ‘Tyson’ Hlatshwayo for his side’s clash against Al Ahly in the second leg of the CAF Champions League round of 32.

The South African side will be without their captain Hlatshwayo, who is suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards, when they host Al Ahly on Sunday in a tough second leg for both teams after Al Ahly recorded a 1-0 win in Cairo against them a week ago.

“Tyson’s [absence] is a blow for the club going to this match. He is the captain of the club. He has been there, he has shown his qualities,” Gaxa said.

Although Gaxa sees Hlatshwayo’s absence as a huge loss for the team, he believes that the squad members are capable of filling his boots.

“We have capable players on the bench who can do the job as well. We are going to miss him obviously but what is important is that we have other capable players who can deliver on the day.

“Whoever comes in I just hope and wish he is going to do well. It’s a team sport. We don’t rely on individuals even though we know it [Hlatshwayo’s absence] is a big blow for us. But hopefully whoever comes in will do a great job for the club,” he added.
