Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt praised Al Ahly players after his side crashed out of the CAF Champions League at the hands of the Red Devils.

The South African side failed to overturn their 1-0 defeat at El-Salam Stadium, as the Cairo giants held them to a goalless draw at Johannesburg on Sunday to reach the 16-team group stage.

Despite the elimination, the South African coach believes it was an honour for his team to face Al Ahly in the round of 32.

“Al Ahly played the return leg at a slow pace. It was an honour to face them,” Hunt said in a televised interview following the game.

“They know how to deal with these kind of matches.

“Al Ahly have the best players ever. Amr Gamal and Ahmed Hegazy were the best,” he added.

Gamal had a chance to kill off the tie after a fine individual effort but his left-footed finish slammed against the post three minutes from time, while Hegazy had scored in Cairo to give the record eight-time champions a first-leg advantage.

“Al Ahly deserved to advance and could have secured victory in the second leg,” he concluded.
