Ekramy talks about Al Ahly’s victory over Bidvest
Al Ahly and Egypt goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy expressed his happiness and satisfaction after his team’s qualification to the group stage of the 2017 CAF Champions League.
Al Ahly held Bidvest Wits to a goalless draw on Sunday to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage with a 1-0 aggregate victory. Ekramy stood his ground during the match and was able to pull off two superb saves crushing Bidvest Wits’ dreams and hopes to eliminate the Red Devils.
“All players and the technical staff did a great job in our encounter against Bidvest Wits,” said the 33-year-old goalkeeper to DMC Sports TV channel.
“We qualified to the group stage thanks to hard work and expertise which helped us overcome hard conditions before and during the match.”
Ekramy pointed out that the team was forced to play in unhealthy conditions because of the Angolan referee who did not award a clear penalty kick to the Red Castle.
“Also, the opponent’s coach was trying to belittle us through press comments before the game but we had the final say,” he added.
The national team goalkeeper concluded by saying that Al Ahly players proved in this match that the team is capable of competing in the African Champions League.
