Smouha draw Bidvest, Al Masry face KCCA in CAF Confederation Cup

Egyptian sides Smouha and Al Masry will face Bidvest Wits and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) respectively in the play-off round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The draw, which was held on Tuesday at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, pitted the 16 teams that qualified from the round of 32 of the Confederation Cup against the 16 clubs that were eliminated from the CAF Champions League. The winners of this round will advance to the expanded group stage of the Confederation Cup.

Alexandrian side Smouha, who qualified after beating Kenya’s Ulinzi Stars 4-3 on aggregate, will face Bidvest Wits. The South African side were eliminated from the CAF Champions League after losing 1-0 on aggregate at the hands of Egypt’s Al Ahly.

Egypt’s other representative Al Masry have been paired with Uganda’s KCCA FC, who were knocked out at the hands of CAF Champions League title holders Mamelodi Sundowns. Port Said-based Al Masry qualified to the play-offs after their second leg game against Djoliba of Mali was cancelled when the Malian Football Association was suspended.

Defending champions TP Mazembe, who were knocked out of the Champions League by CAPS United of Zimbabwe, will face Algeria’s JS Kabylie.

The first leg of the play-offs will take place between 7 and 9 April and the second leg will be played on the weekend of 14-16 April.
