Al Ahly and Zamalek learn of CAF Champions League match dates

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the dates of the 2017 CAF Champions League games starting from the group stages till the end of the tournament.

CAF has chosen a new system for club competitions this year, as group stages will be followed by the round of 16, instead of the quarter final stage as it used to in previous editions.

In an official statement, Al Ahly announced that the club received a letter from CAF detailing the dates of the games starting from the group stages.

The group stage is going to kick off next May and end in July, while the quarter finals are going to take place in September, one month before the conclusion of the semi finals. The winner will be determined at the beginning of November as that is when the second leg of the final is going to be played.

Official dates:

Group Stages:

First Round: 12th-13th-14th of May

Second Round: 23rd-24th of May

Third Round: 2nd-3rd-4th of June

Fourth Round: 20th-21st of June

Fifth Round: 1st-2nd of July

Sixth Round : 7th-8th-9th of July

Quarter Finals: 

First Leg: 8th-9th-10th of September

Second Leg: 15th-16th-17th of September

Semi Finals:

First Leg: 29th-30th of September or 1st of October

Second Leg: 13th-14th-15th of October


First Leg: 27th-28th-29th of October

Second Leg: 3rd-4th-5th of November

It’s also worth mentioning that both Al Ahly and Zamalek have already reached the Round of 16 of the CAF Champions League, where both clubs are top seeded. The group stages draw for CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup will take place after the end of CAF Confederations Cup playoffs, in which Egypt’s representatives, Al Masry and Smouha, are playing
