Egypt’s national team director discusses squad changes
Egypt’s national team director Ehab Leheita has discussed the inclusion of new players to the Pharaohs’ squad ahead of their friendly against Togo.
Egypt manager Héctor Cúper has included four new faces to his 25-man squad for the Pharaohs’ upcoming training camp. Leheita, however, said that despite the new additions, Cuper isn’t looking to make drastic changes to his squad.
“Several players were injured after the Africa Cup of Nations and we needed to find replacements,” Leheita said in a radio interview.
“Cuper is trying to take advantage of the international break to include players who can replace those who’re injured.
The Pharaohs will host Togo at Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Tuesday, March 28 in a friendly in preparation for the team’s away match against Tunisia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“The squad includes some players who join the national team for the first time and others who were previously excluded due to injury or for being out-of-form like Amr Gamal.
“The squad included only four new players, namely Mahmoud Abdel-Rahim Gennesh, Amr Tarek, Ahmed El-Sheikh and Amir Adel. They’ll be under a lot of pressure,” he added.
He explained that some of these players would join the locals national team led by coach Hany Ramzy.
