Egypt international and Al Ahly playmaker Abdallah El-Said has spoken about Al-Ahly’s qualification to the Round of 16 of the African Champions League, and the team’s goal of winning it.

In an interview with Al-Ahly TV, the 31-year-old explained how tough the competition is now: “ِMatches in the African Champions League do not see double figure scores nowadays and it’s really difficult to score many goals against a team in the group stages.”

“Every team in the tournament studies their opponents well enough to dampen their strength points. We are working hard to get in our best possible shape to try and get decent results to progress to the following rounds,” he added.

He continued, “Al-Ahly is a club that wins competitions and doesn’t just participate in tournaments for the sake of it. Following our 1-0 win in Cairo, we were thinking about the away game, and considering how tough an opponent Bidvest is.”

El-Said also reflected on some of the fans’ criticism during the last couple of weeks, explaining,  “I have the experience to deal with positive or completely negative reactions. I’m just a player like any other player in the team. The club isn’t registered with my name on it. The performance overall isn’t affected by one single player.”

Speaking on Egypt‘s chances of qualifying to the World Cup 2018 in Russia, he said, “The road is still very long. The national team requires hard work and dedication. It’s great that we won our first two qualifying matches. The team is in a good shape and the players are working hard for it.”

“I hope that this generation qualifies to the World Cup and restores glory to Egyptian football once again” he concluded.
