Misr El-Maqassa beat Al Masry to close gap on leaders Al Ahly
Misr El-Maqassa defeated Al Masry 4-2 in gameweek 21 of the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday to close the gap on leaders Al Ahly to four points.
Maqassa are now second on 48 points, four behind the Red Castle who have a game in hand. Meanwhile, Al Masry are fourth on 40 points.
The opening quarter of the encounter saw nothing but just an exchange of chances. Burkinabe forward Eric Traore drew first blood for the Fayoum-based side with a header on the 15-minute mark.
Only two minutes later, Al Masry were level as the Port Said-based club benefitted from Ragab Nabil’s blunder when the Maqassa defender turned the ball into his own net.
Traore netted again after the break to restore his side’s lead in the 57th minute.
Al Masry restored parity for the second time in the 68th minute, as Ivory Coast midfielder Herman Kakou scored his side’s second goal.
Ahmed Dawouda made it 3-2 for Maqassa in the 72nd minute before John Antwi cemented their victory with a fourth goal in the closing minutes of the match.
