CAF secretary general Hicham El Amrani resigns
The Confederation of African Football’s secretary general Hicham El Amrani resigned from his post on Sunday.
Just over a week after long-standing Issa Hayatou was defeated in the CAF elections to Madagascar’s Ahmad Ahmad, Morocco’s El Amrani, who served as secertary general for the last six years, announced that he will be leaving his position without giving any reasons for his decision.
“It is with great regret that I hereby inform you that I am leaving today my position as CAF General Secretary, after eight years spent within the Confederation of African Football,” El Amrani wrote in a letter sent to all federations across Africa.
The 37-year-old along with Hayatou were referred to the Egyptian Economic Court earlier in March over allegedly violating the broadcast law by not putting the CAF TV rights out to a competitive tender.
It is worth mentioning that new CAF president Ahmad, who recently praised Egypt’s support for him in the recent elections, is due to meet staff members in Cairo on Monday.
