Egypt’s local national team have defeated Benin 2-0 in the preparations for CHAN 2018 qualifiers at the Air Defence Stadium on Monday.

Egypt XI: Mohamed Awad, El-Shahat, Ahmed Sami, Mahmoud Alaa, Mohamed Hamdi; Metwally, Nour El-Sayed, Maher, Hassan, Hesham Mohamed; Amr Marei.

The pharaohs opened the scoreline through ENPPI’s Amr Marei, who converted Nasser Maher’s low cross in the 33rd minute, ending the first-half 1-0.

Ismaily’s Mahmoud Metwaly made it 2-0 from Mohamed Hamdi’s after 56th minutes, and team captain Khaled Kamar had the chance to score Egypt’s third goal from the spot, but the visitors goalkeeper saved it.

Despite the absences of a number of key players like Nedved, Aboul-Fetouh, Islam Mohreb, and Salah Soliman, Egypt controlled the game easily and could have scored more, if Benin’s goalkeeper wasn’t in an extraordinary form.

Egypt is participating in the CHAN qualifiers for the first time and will face Morocco on August 11 in Cairo before facing them a week later in Morocco, with the winner qualifying for the final tournament‎ in Kenya.
