Gennesh reflects on his first Egypt call-up
Zamalek goalkeeper Mahmoud Abdel-Rahim Gennesh expressed his happiness after first national team call-up and spoke about Ahmed Nagy’s advice to him.
Gennesh was called-up to join the Pharaohs’ training camp ahead of Togo friendly match on Tuesday as part of the team’s preparations for their away match against Tunisia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The goalkeeper is training for the first time with the national team along with teammates Essam El-Hadary and Sherif Ekramy after Ahmed El-Shennawy was ruled out with an injury.
“It is an honour to join Egypt national team, it already feels like home here,” he told ON Sport TV channel. “This is a dream came true, I want to secure my spot.”
Gennesh said that training with the national team is different since players are not representing their respective clubs. “We’re all representing our country,” he explained.
He also said thanked goalkeeping coach Ahmed Nagy for choosing him to join the camp and said that he assured him that all goalkeepers have an equal chance to play for Egypt. “I would like to thank Ahmed Nagy for his constant support and advice.”
