Meteb admits he might leave Al Ahly over lack of playing time
Al Ahly veteran striker Emad Meteb expressed his frustration over his current role with the team even after extending his contract for one year.
Meteb recently renewed his contract with the Red Castle for one season. However, the 34-year-old player is considering his future with the Red Devils over the lack of playing time.
“Yes, I just renewed my contract but if I don’t find myself important to the team I’ll leave immediately,” the forward explained. “I won’t stay on the bench for long and I won’t be marginalized. I feel that I still have a lot to give, my role with the team should be important on and off the pitch.”
Meteb, who was part of Al Ahly’s greatest era, is now regularly excluded from the team’s starting line-up and only takes part as a substitute in the dying minutes of the games.
“Hossam El-Badry was my coach when I first started in Al Ahly’s youth sector and I respect him a lot but I am surprised that I am not included in the rotation process for strikers during matches,” he added. “Especially after Marwan Mohsen was injured. Amr Gamal got his chance to play but I didn’t.”
The 2004/05 Egyptian Premier League top scorer thinks that he was being treated unfairly in the past four years by different coaches and not just El-Badry for not getting sufficient game time. “Now I feel that my services with the team are only needed off the pitch.”
