Volleyball: Al Ahly crowned African champions

Al Ahly beat Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel 3-1 in front of their home fans to win a record-extending 12th African Club Champions Championship title.

The Red Castle lost the opening set 20-25 before they managed to regroup, winning the second set 25-18. Al Ahly lost their player Mohamed Abdel-Moneim with an injury during the third set but still managed to win it at 25-20 before claiming a 25-18 win in the fourth set to win the title.

The Egyptian side reached the final after beating Bourj Bouaririj of Algeria in the semi-final while Etoile du Sahel had to defeat Libya’s Swehly to secure their spot in the final.

The Red Devils had also defeated Kenya Prisons in the quarterfinal and won their three games in the group stage against Cameroon’s Bafia 3-0, Espérance de Tunis 3-0 and Al Ahli Benghazi of Libya 3-1.

In the third-place match, Bourj Bouaririj claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over Swehly to win the bronze medal.
