Al Ahly impose media ban on players following Meteb, Fathi comments
Al Ahly director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz announced that a media ban will be imposed on all team players starting Tuesday in order to focus on the Egyptian Premier League.
The ban comes following comments made by Al Ahly players Emad Meteb and Ahmed Fathi revealing their dissatisfaction towards previous decisions and comments made by the technical staff.
“No player in the team no matter how important he is should go to the media and comment on the technical staff decisions,” Abdel-Hafiz told Al Ahly TV channel before the ban was imposed. “These are the principles we inherited in the club. We refuse to discuss such issues outside the club.”
Abdel-Hafiz told the players that rules will be applied immediately, if any player breaches the new media ban. According to new reports, Meteb and Fathi will be referred to investigation after their recent comments. They are also expected to receive heavy fines.
The former Al Ahly player assured that new instructions will be given to the players in a session on Wednesday to ensure that rules apply on the whole team and not just a few players. “Nothing personal about these decisions, it’s all about the club’s system and principles,” he added.
