Ahmed Hassan hopes prayers will stop Buffon from breaking his record
Former Egypt international Ahmed Hassan has revealed he hopes that Buffon will not break his record of the most capped international footballer in the world.
Buffon won his 168th Italy cap in their 2-0 win against Albania last Friday, becoming the most capped European footballer of all time and became close to surpass the World record (184) set by Ahmed Hassan.
“I hope it’s an Egyptian that breaks my record. El-Hadary is still 31 games behind, but you can expect anything from a player like him. He’s an idol and example of patience, hard work, efforts and diligence,” Hassan told Extra news.
“Unfortunately Buffon is very close to break my record, he’s just 14 games behind. I let my mother pray that he doesn’t break my record.
“Few years ago, when Casillas was close to break my record, our prayers had a great effect and he no longer receives any call-ups from the national team as he has been replaced by David De Gea, so we hope it works with Buffon too,” Hassan concluded.
It’s worth a mentioning that Ahmed Hassan is the most capped international footballer in the world with 184 caps, and his last one came in May 2012 against Togo in a friendly.
