El-Sheikh bags a brace as El-Makasa beat Ismaily in five-goal thriller
Misr El-Makasa have defeated Ismaily 3-2 in the 23rd round of the Egyptian Premier League to widen the gap between themselves and third-place Smouha.
Ehab Galal’s side took advantage of Zamalek’s slip against Smouha on Saturday as they secured a hard-fought 3-2 win over Ismaily.
Al Ahly loanee and the Egyptian Premier League top goal-scorer Ahmed El-Sheikh opened the scoring after 27 minutes, before Diego Calderon equalised, converting Ibrahim Hassan’s cross.
In the 40th minute, Eric Traoré restored the lead for El-Makasa and four minutes later El-Sheikh scored his 13th league goal of the season, ending the first-half 3-1.
Emad Hamdy scored his side’s second goal in the 65th minute after El-Makasa’s defender Ragab Nabil was sent off, but his goal wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.
With this result, Misr El-Makasa are second in the Egyptian Premier League with 51 points, four behind leaders Al Ahly, but the latter have a game in hand, while Ismaily sit ninth with 28 points.
