Zamalek sack Helmy, appoint Mohamed Salah & Abdel-Halim Ali
Zamalek president announced the immediate departure of coach Mohamed Helmy after the Whites lost 2-0 to Smouha in the 23rd round of the Egyptian Premier league.
The White Knights were unable to overcome two goals by Smouha on Saturday which helped the Alexandrian side level on points with Zamalek and Al Masry as all three sides stand with 40 points.
“Mohamed Helmy and his staff will leave immediately. No members of this staff will remain with the team,” Mansour told El Mehwar TV channel. “I already talked with Mohamed Salah and he will be returning to us as general manager along with Abdel-Halim Ali who will return as football director.
The chairman also revealed that he canceled an honoring ceremony that was being planned for Helmy before his departure as he thinks the coach deliberately lost the match.
“Things are out of control, more order to be applied from now on,” he added. “I signed two right backs and they did not play, he relied on Ahmed Tawfik instead.”
Zamalek are currently third with 40 points after playing 20 matches while arch rivals Al Ahly are on top of the table with 55 points earned from 21 matches.
