Inácio to sign one-and-a-half year deal with Zamalek
Zamalek board member Ahmed Mortada Mansour announced that Portuguese coach Augusto Inácio will put pen to paper with the club for one and a half season.
Inácio is a retired football player who started his coaching career in 1990 with Portuguese tier Rio Ave. His resume includes a number of Portuguese clubs like Sporting CP, Porto, Vitória de Guimarães and Moreirense. In addition to Qatari Al Ahli SC in 2004.
“We will sign all contracts on Tuesday. We want to give the new coach enough time to leave a good mark with the team,” Mansour told Sada El Balad TV channel.
The highlight of the coach’s career was last season after he successfully won the Taça da Liga or the Portuguese League Cup, the club’s first title.
“We decided to sign Inácio because he managed to win a championship last season with a mediocre team,” he added. “He also led remarkable clubs in Portugal like Sporting and Porto.”
Mansour pointed out that the 62-year-old coach is very organized technically and personally. He also said that he won a number of titles as an assistant coach and as head coach. The former Porto assistant manager collected three titles as head coach and eight titles as an assistant coach throughout his career.
“With all due respect to French coach Alain Giresse but the last championship he won was in 1992. Also, he is better with national teams than clubs, that’s why we chose Augusto Inácio,” he concluded.
Zamalek recently sacked coach Mohamed Helmy and his staff after the team was defeated by Smouha 2-0 in the league.
