Maxwell Cornet and Seko Fofana commit to represent Ivory Coast
Ivorian-French prospects Maxwell Cornet and Seko Fofana have chosen to play for the Ivory Coast national team over the France national team.
Lyon winger Maxwell Cornet and Udinese midfielder Seko Fofana have both agreed to officially represent the Ivory Coast over France in all FIFA competitions, both having Ivorian descent.
Despite having represented the U-19 France national team, the now-21-year-old Fofana has chosen to represent Ivory Coast at the senior level. 20-year-old Maxwell Cornet found himself in a similar situation, having represented the French U-21 team.
Both players met with Marc Wilmots, who played a large role in the players’ commitment to the Ivorian national team, in Paris Monday morning and made the official decision in the presence of the Ivorian Football Federation President. Both are considered a strong push for The Elephants under the newly-appointed Belgian manager Wilmots as a result of their high potential and both are considered hot prospects of African football.
Maxwel Cornet has eight goals in 40 appearances with Lyon in all competitions, while Fofana has five goals to his name with Udinese in all competitions in 23 appearances this season. It is worth noting that Fofana suffered from a fibular fracture and is out until the beginning of the new season.
