Salah nets a brace as Lazio knock Roma out of Coppa Italia
Mohamed Salah has scored twice in Roma’s 3-2 win against Lazio but it wasn’t enough to prevent the biancoceleste from advancing to Coppa Italia final with an aggergate score of 4-3.
Salah managed to get Roma back in the tie by scoring a brace when Roma was down 2-1, but they needed another two goals with time not being sufficient.
AS Roma’s starting XI: Alisson Becker; Juan Jesus, Ruediger, Manolas, Emerson; Strootman, Paredes, Nainggolan; M.Salah, Dzeko, El Shaarawy
Roma started the Derby della Capitale poorly as they didn’t defend well in order to keep their chances for qualification alive. And that saw Lazio taking advantage in the 37th minute through Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, to make it 1-0 to the visitors and complicate things. But El Shaarawy responded quickly and scored the equaliser in the 44th minute to bring Roma back in the equation.
The Giallorossi were dealt another blow to their chances as Lazio practically put the tie to bed with Italy international Ciro Immobile going clear on goal, slotting his ball past Alisson Becker which saw Lazio leading again 2-1.
Salah did have his say and scored in the 66th minute to equalise and make it 2-2, but Roma needed to score 3 more goals to qualify.
The game kept going with Roma approaching Lazio’s goal several times, and once again the 24-year-old winger scored his second goal of the night in the 90th minute to make it 3-2. However, the scoreline wasn’t enough to take Roma to Coppa Italia final with Lazio benefiting from their 2-0 triumph in the first leg.
