Squash: 4 Egyptians reach second round of El Gouna International
Mohamed ElShorbagy is among four Egyptians who reached the second round of the El Gouna International Squash Open tournament on Friday.
Defending champion Mohamed ElShorbagy overcame Frenchman Mathieu Castagnet 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 13-11) in 43 minutes. His younger brother Marwan, current World No.5, also qualified, after defeating his compatriot Omar Mosaad 3-0 (11-5, 13-11, 11-5).
Mohamed Abouelghar defeated England’s qualifier Adrian Waller 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-7) in 38 minutes, while tournament wildcard Marwan Tarek lost to Gregory Gaultier 0-3 (6-11, 2-11, 6-11).
Tarek Momen lost to his compatriot Mazen Hesham in the biggest upset of the tournament so far. Hesham, who is playing his first event after seven months of absence due to injury, claimed a 3-1 win (11-9, 11-13, 12-10, 11-8).
Abouelghar will play against current World No.3 Mohamed ElShorbagy in an all-Egyptian second round match, while Marwan ElShorbagy will face Australia’s Cameron Pilly. Hesham will have a tough game against current World No.1 Gregory Gaultier.
Egypt’s Fares Dessouky, Mohamed Reda, Ali Farag, Karim Ali Fathi, Omar Abdel Meguid, Zahed Mohamed and Karim Abdel Gawad will play their first round matches on Saturday.
